Course Booking Terms & Conditions & Data Protection Details 03/2023:

 

Devon Shorebased is a Royal Yachting Association (The RYA) Recognised Training Centre.

The Client (also referred to as the Student) is the person(s) named on the booking form.

Provision of Courses:

Course Attendance – All Royal Yachting Association (The RYA) courses provided by Devon Shorebased are approved by The RYA and follow the guidance & syllabus specified by the RYA.  Attendance on a course does not mean the automatic issue of a certificate. The issue of certificates (or licence in respect of SRC VHF) is dependent on the student attaining a satisfactory standard for that course.

All material supplied by Devon Shorebased as part of course remains the property of Devon Shorebased until payment in full is received from the client.

First Aid Course - The first aid course involves physical activity in practising CPR, recovery position, etc. You will be required to demonstrate to the tutor that you are physically able to perform set first aid tasks. Please advise if this is likely to cause any difficulty. We suggest that you wear loose-fitting casual clothing, as the practical nature of the demonstrations and practice requires kneeling on the floor. Trousers and flat shoes are recommended.

Dates of Courses:

Devon Shorebased will endeavour to provide the courses booked by clients on the dates booked and agreed.

Dates Changed by Devon Shorebased - Should dates of courses need to be changed then Devon Shorebased will suggest new dates to the Client. If the Client is unable to attend on the new dates then the Client will be entitled to a full refund.

Dates Changed by the Client - If the Client cannot attend on the dates booked and confirmed by Devon Shorebased and new dates cannot be agreed then Devon Shorebased reserves the right to retain any & all money paid by the Client (see Cancellations below).

Payment:

50% at time of booking. Balance is due not less than 14 days before the course start date.

If booking made less than 14 days prior to course start date, full payment is required at time of booking. Details of payment are on the booking form. Payment can be made electronically, in cash or by cheque made Payable to Kevin Fuller.

Bookings will not be confirmed until full payment is received.

Vouchers - voucher are valid for up to one year from the date shown and must be presented at the time of booking. Each voucher can only be used once. One voucher per person.

Course Cancellation:

Course cancelled by Devon Shorebased:

Devon Shorebased will refund in full all money paid by the client in respect of that course.

Course cancelled by Client:

One month before course start date – full refund less 10% administration cost.

Fourteen days before course start date – 50% refund of moneys paid.

Less than fourteen days before course start date 0% refund.

Complaints:

Should a Student have a complaint regarding the services provided by Devon Shorebased then the Student should in the first instance make their grievance known as soon as possible to the course instructor. If this is not possible or the response is unsatisfactory then the student should contact the Devon Shorebased office on 07770 817 341 or e-mail devonshorebased@gmail.com or by post to 54 Old Exeter Street, Chudleigh, TQ13 0JX. If the outcome is still unsatisfactory then Students can contact the RYA on 023 8060 4100.

Data protection:

  • Our Privacy Policy:

Devon Shorebased will not (other than for the purposes stated below) disclose, sell, or otherwise make available any of your details to any other third party, unauthorised person or organisation.

We would however like to contact you in the future regarding courses we provide. If you would like us to contact you in the future, please indicate in the space provided on the booking form, otherwise we will not do so.

  • How We Use Your Information:

The personal information you provide us at the time of booking will be held and used in accordance with the General Data Protection Act and only used in connection with the course/courses you have booked.

  • Retention of Student Information:

On successful completion of a First Aid, SRC VHF, Day Skipper Theory and/or Yachtmaster Theory course your name, certificate number and date of issue will be stored for up to 7 years. This information allows us to verify or replace your certificate if required. At the end of 7 years all information will be destroyed/deleted. If you prefer that we do not retain these details, then please indicate in the space provided on the booking form.

  • SRC Records:

Completed examination papers will be held by the centre for five years, or until its next SRC centre inspection, whichever is shorter. The details you provide the RYA when booking your SRC exam and licence application are not retained by Devon Shorebased.

  • Health declaration details:

All information given to Devon Shorebased will be treated in strictest confidence and will only be used by Devon Shorebased in respect of the training courses booked by you. It will only be divulged to the instructor taking the course(s) to ensure your safety.

Any information provided by you will be destroyed following completion of the course.

  • Prevention of Fraud or Other Crime:

Devon Shorebased will if requested pass information on to the appropriate authorities in connection with the prevention or detection of fraud or other crime.

  • RYA Quality Control & Complaints Procedure:

The RYA may contact students when this is necessary for quality assurance of RYA training, for example in the investigation of a complaint or incident. In these instances, the information is used solely for the requested purpose and is not entered on to the RYA central database.

Discrimination or Harassment:

Sexual/Racial harassment and/or discrimination are unlawful and will not be tolerated by Devon Shorebased. Students who feel they have been discriminated against or harassed by a fellow student or Devon Shorebased staff member should contact the Devon Shorebased Principal or the RYA (see complaints section above).

Alcohol and drugs:

Devon Shorebased reserves the right to refuse to teach a student if it suspects that they either have consumed, are under the influence of, or are in possession of alcohol or drugs during course hours (other than medication personally prescribed by the individual’s doctor or are authorised to be in their possession).

Gift Vouchers:

Devon Shorebased gift vouchers are redeemable against the total cost of courses provided by Devon Shorebased. No cash equivalent is available.
